Tapping Back Into Your Creative Energy (Even When You Feel Blah)
What do you do when you wake up and just don’t feel creative? You don’t feel inspired. You don’t feel like doing anything that requires effort or imagination. That’s exactly where I’ve been lately.
As a yoga teacher and a lover of movement, I’m usually filled with inspiration. I wake up excited to flow, to move in new ways, to explore the edges of my body and see what’s possible. Movement has always been my way of tapping into that spark of creativity — that life force that makes everything feel vibrant and alive.
But lately? I’ve felt blah. No spark. No inspiration. Honestly, I’ve just wanted to curl up in Child’s Pose for an hour and call it a day. And that’s not like me at all. Normally I’m the one trying different variations of poses, finding creative transitions, and playing with new sequences. But right now… I’m tapped out.
And you know what? That’s okay.
We’re not meant to be “on” all the time. Our bodies and minds need downtime — moments of rest and reset. Yet we live in a world that glorifies constant creativity, constant productivity, constant newness. Especially in fields like yoga, art, or marketing, there’s this unspoken pressure to always have the next idea ready to go. But the truth is, no one can sustain that forever. Even the most creative people hit dry spells. It’s part of being human.
When I find myself in one of these uninspired phases, I like to remember the wisdom of the second chakra — Svadhisthana. It’s often called the creative energy center of the body, located in the lower belly and pelvis. It’s associated with movement, emotion, sensuality, and of course, creativity. When this energy center is balanced, we feel inspired, playful, expressive, and full of life. When it’s not, we might feel stuck, dull, or disconnected — sound familiar?
If your creative spark feels dim, it might be time to give your second chakra a little love. Here are a few gentle ways to do that:
✨ Move your hips. Hip-opening yoga poses — like Pigeon, Lizard, or Bound Angle Pose — help free up tension in the pelvis and get energy flowing again. Don’t force it; just move intuitively and notice what feels good.
🍊 Eat orange foods. This chakra is associated with the color orange, so reach for foods like oranges, sweet potatoes, mangoes, or carrots. Think of it as nourishment for your creative center.
💧 Connect with water. Water is the element of the second chakra, so take a long bath, go for a swim, or even just linger in the shower. Let the water wash away any stagnant energy.
💃 Dance it out. Put on some music and move without thinking — especially through your hips. It doesn’t have to look good; it just has to feel good.
😌 Play. Do something purely for fun, without any goal or expectation. Creativity often returns when we stop trying so hard to find it.
What I’ve learned through this phase is that creativity isn’t something we can force. It ebbs and flows, just like the tides — and just like our energy. Sometimes the most creative thing you can do is simply allow yourself to rest, to be still, and to trust that the inspiration will return when it’s ready.
If you’ve been feeling uninspired too, know that you’re not alone. We all go through these seasons. The trick is to stop fighting them — to honor them as part of the natural rhythm of life.
When we soften into what is, rather than push against it, something beautiful happens — space opens up. And in that space, creativity quietly begins to return. It might start small, like a whisper or a gentle nudge to move your body or pick up your journal again. But that’s how it works — slow, steady, and from the inside out.
So, if your spark feels dim right now, trust that it’s not gone — it’s simply resting. Take this as an invitation to move gently, breathe deeply, and let your body guide you back home to yourself. Inspiration always finds its way back when we stop chasing it and start listening. Sometimes the most creative thing you can do is simply allow yourself to be.
