Grilled Pineapple With Cinnamon

pineapple-636562_1280When I was a bit younger my grandmother would make my sisters and I a (low calorie) pineapple cream cheese pie when we visited. My Grandmother got this recipe from one of her church group’s weight loss recipe books. It was a delicious summer treat. I also use to make a pineapple shake in the summer to stay cool and hydrated in Atlanta where the humidity and heat can be unbearable. Pineapple was a tasty and delicious treat while I was growing up.

The other day I was thinking about my grandmother and her low calorie pie and started craving pineapple probably because the heat in New York reminded me of the heat in Atlanta.

I was thinking of this delicious pineapple pie, but I wanted to make it simpler.

“Grilling”, yes I said it, why not grill some pineapples?

I put pineapples and grilling together and figured what would be easier? Eating Fruit is a nutritious treat, and it will helps you stay satisfied and slim.

So get out your grills (or on the stove will do if you do not have a grill) and get ready to grill your pineapple.

I live in NYC but I brought a bit of Hawaii to my home.

Pineapple contains a digestive enzyme called bromelain that helps digest foods by breaking down of proteins. They are high in Vitamin C for antioxidant support and full of fiber to keep the backend running smoothly.

Sometimes I toss pineapple in my morning smoothies, but a lot of the time I eat it on its own. Some people love pineapple with their yogurt so if you eat cottage cheese or yogurt it’s a lovely combo. For my vegans out there, pineapple added into coconut yogurt is a nice treat.

Sure pineapple is delicious on it’s own but here is a recipe that is ridiculously easy and will fit perfectly with your backyard grilling parties.

Enjoy!

Grilled Pineapple with Cinnamon

Serves 2

1/2 of a pineapple, cut into spears

1 teaspoon cinnamon

Place pineapple spears and cinnamon in a bag. Close the bag tightly and shake it so that the cinnamon coats the spears. Place the pineapple in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. Pre-heat your grill to medium heat, around 350-400 degrees. Place the pineapple spears on the grill and turn them every few minutes until all sides are grilled. Grill the pineapple until it is cooked to your liking.
